This week was focused on more sheeting and mocking up the tent. We will be conducting our user testing round two in this coming week once we make a few more additions to the unit (will include in Week 9 blog).
Sheeting is a key aspect of this project because it will keep the entire tent fully waterproof. We used aluminum sheeting mounted on the skeleton by rivets. We also put caulk along the seams to ensure true waterproofing. This whole process took much longer than any of us thought. There were a lot of surfaces to cover and we had to ensure that everything fit together with overlap where necessary.
For the tent portion we will be using a loaner tent for materials. This is a more cost effective and easier way to create this product for capstone. We plan to cutout two large triangles and one large rectangle from the tent to use on the Peekaboo.
Cutting out siding
Measuring all the paneling for the tent
Installing on tent with rivets and caulk
Mockup of shell installed on base
45 degree angle for max height
Enough room for sitting up inside tent
Tent (will be installed this week)
This mockup shows the 3 faces that we will need for the fabric tent portion: one rectangle front (green panel) and two triangular side panels (blue). One side panel will have a zipper door for access to the interior.
