We have a new project name! Peekaboo
Our goals for this stage were: Install shell with base, finish siding, finish bedding selection, prep for UX testing round 2.
This week we focused on finishing the siding which also included the base for the bedding. In the next week we will make the attachment between the base and the shell/roof.
We decided for a wood base for aesthetic and functional reasons. This wood is pretty lightweight, available, and it provides a nice visual contrast to the metal of the rest of the design.
To accomplish the siding, we selected a thin wood that we could easily cut into rectangles to cover the bottom of the Peekaboo. This was then combined with welded on mounts to install on the carrier. We also had to rough up the aluminum base in order to apply glue to the wood siding. This roughing allowed for better adhesion between the two surfaces.
The biggest challenge was figuring out how to keep our rack mounting system in place with the wood base installation. We decided to cut out rectangles in the wood in order to still provide access to the mounting system.
