What were your goals for this week?
Further refinement of base and shell (exterior siding), installation of mounting system, develop UX testing plan
What did you accomplish, please reflect on your time management. What worked or didn't?
We decided on the metal exterior siding for our rooftop tent, finalized the mounting system, and developed our UX testing plan.
We also secured materials for creating canvas mockups and started mocking up our instructions for users.
What was unexpected / what lessons did you learn?
One of the biggest lessons was from doing preliminary testing by measuring different cars of our target market. We were able to discover the optimal mounting range for our tent.
UX
The user testing that we conducted including measuring the span of varying cars and model years in our target market: Subaru Crosstrek, Subaru Outback, various sedans, etc. We found that the roof racks spanned anywhere from 29 to 35 inches so we created a system which would fit anywhere from 24 to 40 inches (5 inch buffer).
We started creating the instructional guide for users based on a 3D model of the rooftop tent.
We have a list of users including roommates, friends, and coworkers at the fabrication shop who are all willing to test the tent on their cars. We will be conducting testing in pairs once we have the mounting system installed on 2/15.
We will have future posts with more extensive feedback once we are at the construction phase where we can install it on cars.
